Since we started Steele&Cox we’ve been asked so many times by people if we run painting workshops. Because of the amount of interest we decided to create our practical paint workshops for people of all abilities wanting to learn the techniques needed for painting with chalk paint, the paint of choice for creating shabby chic, distressed and aged furniture.
The full-day workshop is run in our North Yorkshire studio where you’ll learn painting techniques, waxing, distressing, gilding and crackling.
You’ll need a small piece of unpainted wooden furniture such as a stool, chair or shelf unit that isn’t too intricate. We start exploring the painting techniques by working on boards before moving on to painting your own small piece of furniture.
10.00am-12.00pm | Introductions and explanation of the properties of chalk paint Learning the painting techniques working on sample boards First coat of paint on your own furniture |
12.00-12.30pm | Lunch |
12.30-4.00pm | Apply second coat of paint to your furniture Continue learning techniques on sample boards Wax and finish your piece of furniture |
By the end of the workshop, you will have learned and practised several techniques and created a
beautiful piece of hand-painted furniture.
Price of £99 includes tutorials and practical painting and finishing techniques, all materials used on the day, refreshments on arrival and lunch with beverages and cake.
Please let us know if you are vegetarian or have any other dietary requirements upon booking.

“We recently attended one of your paint workshops and wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed the day. We had great fun learning how to paint shabby chic. The afternoon tea was lovely and the homemade cakes were delicious. Thank you.” – Mrs P LuxmooreBall
